This is it – one of the few remaining Midwest supper clubs with aged meat choices galore – as well as pork chops to kill for (I had the boneless version with a ginger sauce on the side with wild rice). The town of Le Mars is very lucy to have this place.

Let’s talk about an honest restaurant – appetizer plate of fresh carrot sticks (and other things) including a sample of their corned beef – the fresh kind without all the red food coloring. Salads are conventional iceberg with decent dressings. Choice of potato or good hush puppies. Entree portion size is very generous. My partners in crime (and punishment – being with them is punishment enough) had the Salisbury Steak and the ribeye. Also note that they are not responsible for the taste of their steaks after you add steak sauce or catsup – why would anyone add this stuff to a good piece of meat anyway; to each his own.

Other choices include Chateau Briand for two for $38.00 and the Saint and Sinner 8 oz. tenderloin & Alaskan King Crab legs ($32.50). All other entrees are in the $10 to $19 range.

Wine choices by the glass are very good – at least the CA Syrah I had was very good. Didn’t have time to look at the wine list – next time.

Founded by Fred H. Wells in 1913, the Blue Bunny experience brings back memories of the old fashioned ice cream parlors of the past. Their showplace museum and ice cream parlor on the main street (Rte. 75) of Le Mars can’t be missed. Although I didn’t have the time to visit the museum or take a factory tour, I did have the time to enjoy the Nutcracker Sweet: one dip each of Blue Bunny praline pecan, chocolate and vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce and hot fudge topped wih whipped cream, crushed walnuts and of course a cherry. WOW!

Listen/read closely: the BEST chocolate ice cream in the world (at least the parts I’ve seen) – in this self proclaimed ice cream capital of the world (there is in fact one of the biggest ice cream factories operated by Blue Bunny in Le Mars). It wasn’t the creamy gelato kind, but this one has texture and a depth of flavor which arouses your taste buds and olfactory senses. Have it, you’ll like it!
